The Old Custom House was built in 1560 and served as a Custom House until about 1910. We have added quite a few features that weren't there in Elizabethan times but we like to think that we have preserved the character of the building whilst making sure that our guests are able to enjoy a high standard of comfort.
Our guest rooms look out over the creeks and marshes. The tide comes and goes twice a day creating a constantly changing view of this unique environment and its many inhabitants.
The dining room has a large window overlooking the harbour and creeks and South-facing french windows let in plenty of sunlight.
Breakfast is cooked to order using fresh, local produce. A typical menu includes fresh fruit, nuts, yoghurt and cereals, a choice of traditional English or Continental breakfast or smoked haddock, followed by locally-baked bread toasted with homemade jams and marmalade. Cafetiére coffee, teas and juices are in constant supply. Special diets can be catered for.
Each room is equipped with Freeview TV, WiFi, hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities. We aim to make you feel at home and, of course, you are free to come and go as you please. For the safety of guests and of our family, our two B&B rooms can only be booked by members of the same group with off-road parking for one car. Parties of 1, 2, 3 or 4 guests can book for a minimum 2 night stay. Bookings for one or two guests will be in the Fourposter room and additional guests will be accommodated in the Captain's Quarters room. Both rooms share a landing and this layout works well for a family or group booking.

The "Fourposter" double room is on the first floor and features a magnificent fourposter bed. The 17th century pine shutters open to reveal stunning views of the salt marshes and creeks to the North and a garden view framed by climbing roses, jasmine and honeysuckle to the South. The South views are repeated in the dressing room and the large bathroom with corner bath and shower over.
